North Down coastal cycle trip

My mate and I decided to go for a cycle along the north Down coastal path (Holywood-Bangor). Always get reminded about how beautiful an island Ireland is, on this route. The weather was crap, but I actually really enjoy cycling in the rain as long as I have the right gear.

A fire, some food and coffee provided a nice end to a great trip

Woodland shelters

Whilst out for a forest dander with my daughter we came upon a number of interesting shelters.

This one comes with its own furniture!
Great potential shelter site

Bargain tent

I bought this Eurohike in Millets in Belfast last summer and finally got round to spending the night in it - although was restricted to the back garden. Was reduced at the time from something like £250 to £60. Absolute bargain!

Another night in the woods

Camp setup - tarps and bivvys

Peter Bushcraft opted for the hammock. Home made as well which was pretty impressive!

A beautiful part of the world

I've visited more than 30 countries, but always think that parts of NI, such as Fermanagh in this photo, really are some of the most picturesque places in the world.

An old friend

Whilst down visiting at my parent's farm I finally managed to get some time to do nothing in particular. No meetings to think about, kids were being entertained by grandparents etc so it was great to just head out, explore and think about ...well absolutely nothing. No need to be thinking about what time it was or what needed done at home, the office or wherever. Basically it reminded me that I should create more of these moments as I find that even leisure time generally has its agenda and time to start/finish etc.

Whilst out and about digging through the masses of bits and pieces you tend to find on a farm I came upon an old knife which I originally found out in a forest as a child, more than 20 years ago!

The knife surprisingly still in good shape (it was buried in the forest when I originally found it all those years ago) so I decided to start making a hobbit stool. Finished stool will be updated at a later date!

One man's rubbish is another man's treasure!

I was out for a walk with a mate a while back, who happens to have eyes like a hawk. He spotted an old webber BBQ dumped at the side of a path which is now happily being used as a fire pit :-) I even had my own private log delivery service.
